APSIS: an ESA proof-of-concept for the Hybrid Loop
Space scAvengers is prime contractor of a new ESA activity: Autonomous Planning Simulation and Intent Safety (APSIS): A Hybrid Loop Proof-of-Concept. It started on 19 October 2026.
Spacecraft are starting to decide for themselves. Before an autonomous decision is carried out, someone has to know what the spacecraft intends to do and whether that intent is safe. APSIS works on exactly that: planning carried out by the spacecraft, simulated against real physics, with every intention checked for safety before it executes.
The activity is a proof-of-concept of the Hybrid Loop: a digital twin of the spacecraft connected to the spacecraft itself, with flight data flowing back into the twin so it keeps learning from how the mission actually flies.
APSIS builds on X, our platform for testing spacecraft autonomy from the spacecraft’s own perspective, and on our own orbital dynamics engine.
We will share results as the activity progresses. If you are working on autonomous missions and want to follow it or take part as a pilot user, write to info@spacescavengers.sk.
